Pax Christi Conference on March 2, 2008 at St. Pius Church, GA
Dear Fr. Lee:
As you know, I am co-chair of Pax Christi at Transfiguration along with my Carmelite sister,
Pat Wilson. Recently we join with other Pax Christi groups in the Metro Atlanta area to form
first ever Pax Christi of Metropolitan Atlanta group. There are 4 other Catholic Churches in the
Atlanta area that are part of this group along with Director of Parish Social Justice Ministries
for the Archdiocese of Atlanta, Susan Sullivan.
Our purpose is to create synergies among our groups, advance causes identified by the USCCB within
our Parishes and advocate for causes that are of common interest to all. To that end we have
decided to hold a Conference on March 2, 2008 at St. Pius Church in Sandy Springs on the Faithful
Citizenship document recently released by the USCCB. The document addresses the Catholic's call
advocate for social justice for all by becoming involved in the political process wherever possible. It also addresses the plight of the marginalizes, specifically women, minorities and immigrants. The conference is open to all concerned citizens regardless of faith background.
As members of Transfiguration both Pat and I are familiar with your motivational speaking, ability
to address sensitive issues dynamically and diplomatically as well as your very personable nature.
I suggested you as our Key Note Speaker and it was agreed that I would ask you if you would do this
for me/us. The time frame on this date is 3:15 PM to 4:00 PM. March 2 is a Sunday.
I have again attached the full document for your review.
US Bishops' Reflection on Forming Consciences for Faithful Citiziship
The Challenge of Forimg Consciences for Faithful Citizenship
A Call to Political Responsibility from the Catholic Bishops of the United States
Please consider this and let me know if you are available and would do this enormous favor for me.
Sincerely,
Sheila Hadley Strider, SPHR
